Aquarium Plant Food - plant fertiliser for aquascaping
An aquascape cannot survive without the right plant food. The right plant food can be very simple and effective. Get advice.
Depending on the type of aquascape that you have, give it lean, medium or heavy dosing. All three are good in the right circumstances.
Lean dosing
This is administered to ADA Nature aquarium scapes. It provides just enough nutrients and definitely not too much. The risk of algae is slight with a nutrient-rich substrate because there are barely any extra nutrients spare for algae. PPMD also belongs to this type.
Medium dosing
This is a plant fertiliser which combines the advantages of heavy and lean dosing. There are no big excesses and the risk of shortages is small. This form of dosing is becoming increasingly frequent. PPS-PRo is a nice example of medium dosing. Seachem plant food can be used for this.
Heavy dosing
The approach here is to provide large surpluses of nutrients to ensure there are no shortages, ideal for rapid growth and the cultivation of aquarium plants. Seachem plant food can be used for this. A good example of heavy dosing is the estimative index.
Every form of aquarium fertilisation can be categorised as one of these three methods. Don't be fooled by the latest miracle product promising the most beautiful plants without algae. In normal circumstances you don't get algae from aquarium fertilisation! If something is not right in your aquarium, even a heavy dosing will not guarantee plant growth!
